About Spohr’s Consulting

Spohr’s Consulting was created because there are a lot of lawsuits in the State of Nebraska and they needed to have an expert witness in evaluate, problem solve, explain water damage issues and design a system to resolve the water issue problem. Spohr’s Consulting has had many court cases both in testifying for plaintiffs and defendants and negotiating between the parties. Spohr’s Consulting is the only company, to our knowledge, that the court system allowed raw video to discover of a drainage issue within the trial, which is not normally allowed in court. People have contacted Spohr’s Consulting to inspect real estate before an sale or after a sale if there is a problem. We work with builders in solving water issues in basements during and after construction. We work with the City of Lincoln in the Codes Department and the Engineering Department for sidewalks and streets. We work with other contractors that do mold remediation to determine the source of mold. Spohr’s Consulting designs and tests products to see if they work. We are a company that have developed and improved water drainage systems by designing systems that no one else has developed. We evaluate the circumstance and then design a drain tile system to correct the problem the very first time. The items that we evaluate on the outside of a house are the following:

  • Lay of the land and how well the yard drains
  • Slope of the yard around the foundation is the proper pitch away from the house.
  • Location of downspouts and how they are ejecting water away from the house
  • Condition of the concrete surrounding the house (if it is sloped properly)
  • Hydraulic lifting of the concrete on the outside
  • Look at the surrounding development area to see if it is draining correctly.
  • Any plants and retaining walls are obstructing the natural flow of water away from the house
  • Proper drainage of window wells and egress windows
  • Foundation cracking or settling
  • Wet areas in the yards to see if there are any live springs
  • Existing sprinkler systems to see if they are working correctly
  • The height of the house elevation compared to the yard elevation
  • Old trenches of utility lines and sewer lines to see if they are a factor of the water problem
  • Examine existing outside drain tile system
  • If the waterproofing or damp-proofing have been completed properly
  • Standing water anywhere

The items that we evaluate on the inside of a house are the following:

  • Dampness on the floors or walls
  • Mold growing on the floors or walls
  • Is the floor is lifting
  • Examine the existing inside drain tile system if there is one
  • Any cracks or settling in the foundation
  • What type of foundation is it
  • Foundation is bowing or moving
  • Previous repairs that are not working correctly
  • Odor in the basement
  • Illegal drain tile system by using the sewer system
  • How old is the existing sump pump and how it is plumbed
  • Stains on different household materials, i.e, carpet, tack strips, etc. for entry of water
  • Structure damage of the house, i.e., framing, doors, windows, drywall, flooring, etc.
  • Seal plate of the framing and its elevation to the outside

Majority of our projects are evaluating the same problem that other companies have attempted to correct but have failed. The customers will have to spend more money to have the same problem fixed by Spohr’s Landscaping. We make a conscious effort to correct a problem the very first time.
